Have you ever paused to consider how much we owe to pollinators? About one in every three bites of food we eat — not to mention the reproduction of countless native and ornamental plants — depends on their work. Here in British Columbia, nearly 500 species of native bees do much of this vital pollination, supported by other flower visitors like flies, wasps, butterflies, and birds.

On Wednesday, February 4, from 7:00–9:00 pm, LINC is pleased to sponsor a special Zoom webinar, The Bees of Your Backyard, presented by Dr. Elizabeth Elle of Simon Fraser University.  This webinar is part of the LINC-sponsored Xwe’etay/Lasqueti Bumble Bee Project.

This engaging and photo-rich presentation will introduce you to the remarkable diversity and natural history of bees and other pollinators you might see right in your own garden. You’ll also learn how to recognize different species and, most importantly, how to support them — from understanding their nesting needs to planting for pollinators.
